About Carmack Moving & Storage

Robert Carmack has been moving for thirty straight years, literally. Carmack is the owner of Carmack Moving and Storage located in Chantilly, Virginia. With those thirty years of experience in light hauling, local moving, regional moving and long haul national moving operations, Mr. Carmack shares his insights from years of experience and overseeing thousands of moves.

“I always start with the basics.” He suggests packing one room at a time and labeling each box with a description; what is in it and where does it go. Be specific, it will make unpacking that much easier.

Another common mistake is forgetting the weight of a box. “You don’t have to fill it up, keep the weight of your boxes reasonable.” Put heavy things like books in small boxes so they will be easier to carry.

“Most people over-tape, they forget that tape can damage items if it is applied directly to certain finishes.” Removing the tape could ruin the surface. It is also important to use the right type of tape for the right job. “While this seems very logical, you would be surprised at what our employees see taped!”

Don’t worry about the cost of a box. Double-box fragile items and make sure to add plenty of packing material. “Ten dollars worth of packing material can save a $3000. piece of art.” As a family owned moving company, Carmack Moving and Storage is always aware of the impact that poor planning and lack of preparation can have on a client’s experience. While all moving companies should be licensed and insured, prevention is always the best solution.

“Whether a client is moving across the street or across the country, we have the comprehensive moving services needed to enjoy a simple, safe, and stress-free move.” That is the bottom line for Rob and his staff at Carmack Moving and Storage.
